Industry experience at La Trobe
At La Trobe, you’ll unlock a range of placement opportunities to gain work-relevant experience for credit with our industry and community partners.
Apply the knowledge and skills from your course in a professional work setting, gain valuable work experience, and build your professional network. Designed with flexibility in mind, choose from completing one major placement in a single semester; or undertaking multiple placements over two or more semesters.
Completing an industry placement as part of your degree will assist you to develop professional networks that enable you to more easily gain employment upon graduation. You will explore what it means to be a member of a professional team in a workplace, reflect upon your experiences and career aspirations and develop transferrable skills that will improve your employability.
Practical work placements in a real industry setting are offered right across the University. In addition to discipline-specific subjects, we offer a multi-discipline subject, with preference being given to students who don’t have a compulsory WIL subject as part of their course.
We offer health and professional placement opportunities for students with a mandatory placement component in their course, with local and international industry partners. Students undertake clinical or professional education in the form of placements, fieldwork and other clinical and professional experience.
We offer professional experience placements for students with compulsory placement components in their course. These placements give you the opportunity to work in a supportive educational setting, integrating theory with practice, and developing the skills and experience to meet the requirements for teacher registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching.
In addition to practical work placement subjects, we offer students the opportunity to participate in other work-related experiences including industry projects and study tours.
